Microland, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the natural heritage's discovery
Founded in 2015 by Gérard Filippi, an entomologist and a naturalist expert, Microland contributes to discovering the biodiversity of threatened ecosystems in partnership with local populations. “Archipelago's Biodiversity, the São Tomé and Príncipe Project" was then born, and is planned over several years, with two missions per year.
“Microland has a simple objective, to help local populations to enhance and conserve the biodiversity that surrounds. We help designing projects on a human scale, which are also respectful of the environment: sustainable development in all its simplicity. "

Our vision
Develop, enhance, and preserve São Tomé and Príncipe's unique natural heritage.
Our mission
Raising awareness on the biodiversity and particularly through the entomology's discovery is Microland's main objective. Convinced that environmental protection is closely linked to sharing scientific knowledge, Microland is investing in the deployment of actions to enhance biodiversity.
Thanks to scientific approaches adapted to each natural environment, Microland's actions tend to reduce the stress caused by climate change. The authenticity and richness of these mysterious volcanic islands are full of endemic species and news for the science which we must imperatively identify to better protect them. To carry out our missions, we work closely with the local communities of the archipelago as well as a large number of scientific experts.
Our objective
Microland has a simple objective, helping local populations to improve and save the biodiversity that surrounds them. For this, we design projects on a human scale and respectful of the environment, thanks to a high naturalist experience, based on knowledge of the living world. We provide technical, thematic and logistical support to the local economy on a very small scale and promote the conservation of the natural territory.
Our partners
As an association dedicated to the discovery and promotion of natural heritage, Microland coordinates the program in partnership with the Consulate of São Tomé and Príncipe in Marseille, the Office for Insects and their Environment (Opie), the NGO BirdLife International, as well as the Obô National Park. We also have our loyal partners who have supported us from the start:
