Biodiversity partnership with BirdLife International
As part of the collaboration between Microland and BirdLife International, we launched the project to sponsor a tree of the magnificent Bom Sucesso Botanical Garden.
To participate in the enhancement of the flora heritage of the islands, the rule is simple: you only need to send a donation of a minimum of 50 euros via our association Microland and choose a tree or a plant listed in our catalogue. Your donation will be used to maintain the park and your tree, and therefore to conserve rare and endangered species from the archipelago.

Discovery of the Bom Sucesso Botanical Garden
Bom Sucesso, created in 1997, now watches over many rare plants native to the island and has become the undeniable refuge of a multitude of endemic birds. An orchid shade house has also been built in the heart of the garden, allowing the curious to be captivated by their beauty and to learn more about the fauna of the archipelago.
This magnificent plant garden is located in the north of the island of São Tomé, not far from the entrance to the Obô Natural Park, the São Nicolau waterfall, the Amélia crater lake (Lagoa Amélia) and the Roça Monte Café.
It is a strategic tourist point because from this garden begin a multitude of hiking trails, including the emblematic ascent of the highest point of the island, the Pico de São Tomé.
A unique value for the archipelago of São Tomé and Príncipe
Since 2006, two protected areas have been created in the country: the Obô de São Tomé Natural Park (PNOST) and the Príncipe Natural Park (PNP). Finally, the islands have several forests that meet the criteria of High-Value Forest for Conservation (HCV). Bom Sucesso Botanical Garden is no exception and was created as part of the ECOFAC6 project (Forest ecosystems of central Africa), a program funded by the European Union and coordinated by BirdLife (2018-2021).
Today, Bom Sucesso welcomes around 3000 tourists a year and is maintained by a team of 5 people, including guides, maintenance staff and para-taxonomists. Through the biodiversity and ecosystems project implemented by BirdLife alongside with the local government, as well as sponsorships like ours, the garden now takes a unique and educational crucial place for the conservation of the flora of the archipelago.
Supporting these environmental initiatives locally thus represents vital security for the maintenance of global biodiversity, ensuring the balance and survival of all species combined. We have selected for you 20 endemic trees and plants, representative of the unique biodiversity of São Tomé and Príncipe, most of which have healing properties used in local traditional medicine. Here is a virtual tour carried out using a drone by the Botanical Garden of Bom Sucesso:
Your precious help preserves this natural gem
The team of Santomean botanists and gardeners, thanks to your donations, will be able to continue the performance of their profession and protect endangered species. The flora can flourish and reproduce this precious cycle of life. The diagram below illustrates approximately the distribution of your donations:
A big thank you to our donors
We have worked with the BirdLife team, botanists and gardeners from São Tomé to carefully determine an exceptional selection of trees and plants for a unique choice of sponsorship.
Over a year ago, we launched a fundraising campaign with Ulule, supporting the concretisation of our initiatives towards the local communities of São Tomé and Príncipe. The donors listed below are among those who supported our first expedition last February, by offering a donation to sponsor a tree or plant of the archipelago. This project took time to set up, but today we are proud to be able to maintain our commitments to everyone involved in one way or another in this wonderful adventure.
By contributing through this initiative, you allow the rare and / or threatened flora of the archipelago of São Tomé and Príncipe to flourish. Finally, you support the enhancement of the flora heritage of the archipelago and its public awareness program to preserve biodiversity.
The team of BirdLife International, Parc Obô and Microland say thank you!
